Fifty Shades of Grey - Review

Hi everyone,

50 shades of grey almost created a viral sensation in few weeks of its release. 50 shades of grey is an erotic novel written by E L James. Seeing the author's name I felt it was a male author but soon I realized it was indeed she and not he (after reading "about author" page). Well, not trying to be anti-feminist or something but I was taken aback by the fact that a married woman is writing an erotic novel which makes Mills & Boon look like child rhymes. However, as a woman reading the book from woman's point of view was very exciting.

The book starts with flirtatious affair between a hot, suave, rich CEO and a plain Jane.  What starts as a crush gradually develops into BDSM and it takes you to different world of lust and desire. Will life be the same for both of them after entering into this type of relationship is the rest of the story.

The Awws (Awesome things)
1. The narration - it doesn't lag or rush anywhere (at least in the first book)
2. The Unclear Clear explanations - the BDSM stuffs specified are clear to understand but still concealed so that the readers don't feel disgusted.
3. Story: Unlike many erotic novels this novel does have a story

The Oopsss
1. Unwanted length of the book. Although the book has a good narration we can't read more than 300 pages especially when the content is controversial. 500+ pages is unwanted.
2. More clear characterization of female protagonist should have been given. What is the point in having 500+ pages and all we can infer about the female lead is that she is a plain Jane who desires the hot male lead??

Bottom line: Although this book has mixed reviews still this book is worth read once, especially to know about the different ways to express desire.

P.S: Completed Book 2 in the trilogy (nothing to write about it, still will upload a review), Started with the 3rd book.

Cheers,
Tanya

My hostel... :)

Hostel - the general perception about it is aversion, bad food, strictness, ragging, rules. Well my hostel had changed it all. To me hostel means everything. A home away from home. Hostel changed the way I think about everything. Although, i need to share my room with only one roommate we always end up with minimum 6 to 8 people in a room. Thanks to my college we have a well furnished and almost well maintained (don't kick me gals) rooms or can we call it a flat because we do have all 2 bedrooms, washroom, kitchen, corridor, terrace, etc.

What I learnt from my hostel life?
  • To share - not only feelings but also Surf Excel  :P that is the one we share more than anything
  • To adjust - no one can ever master the art of adjusting but still we learnt as much as needed
  • To be silent - to those who all think hostel is all about chatting they don't know the true side. We used to be silent when one of us gets upset. Silence conveys more than long speeches.
  • To love unconditionally - although everyone has flaws i learnt to love unconditionally.
  • To be myself - my hostel is one place where i am myself.
Who is who to me in hostel??? So here it goes the testimonial about you guys.

I am using nick names so that only you people know who i mean

  • The Bunny: Hey bunny, need to tell you i could never ever think of anyone as my room mate even kitty katty. She is my sweetie but still i love you too.. I have never told u how much you mean to me. The late night sleepy chats, midnight food, afternoon naps, evening soap operas, the times me sulk away, everything including the polka dots i can never forget anything.
  • The Kitty - Katty: You are my sweetie. I love the way we chat and i feel a little useful for studying cse only wen you ask doubts. I like the way we share things and feelings although bunny knows more its just that i like talking to you because you do free yourselves when i come. I learnt a lot from you especially cleaning room, tapping while oiling, etc.
  • My Kiddo:  Aww sweety that's one term i can ever tell you. You are my kid sister, a daughter, everything. I never felt even a single problem with you. You are the best kiddo any mom can have. I envy your mom. I always felt that over protective nature on you.
  • Ms. Pretty NCC: Sorry for framing u this nickname all of a sudden. You are someone i really admire. I love your elegance, your guts, your attitude everything. Many a times i have made you angry but still that was all coincidences and i won't tell a sorry friends ko sorry nahi bolte hai na? I wish you a gud luck in ur company :P
  • Puku: oye puku... u r cute sweet and pretty girl. I learnt even being silent attracts others on the other hand you bring the hell down when you crack jokes. Remember that "she has boyfriend know why he is still asking her out" incident. OMG i still LOL. I must say this i really admire your culinary skills even wen the food is hot and spicy.
  • Bahini: Oye tu to itna gappe marti hai that anyone will be your friends soon and your habit of knocking doors damn so naughty. You are someone who can easily be anyone's friend.
  • Jun: you are the nerd among us. We all feel Penny and you are the Sheldon :P just kidding.
Well miss you all. And i miss Shristy, bandana, evan, richa, deepa too... :) Shristy am definitely naming my daughter after you. You are the most sweet girl i ever met (P.S with a cute name).

Cheers,
Love you
